Intercultural Iftar with Hon. Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration

IDI GTA in partnership with Town of Ajax and Indo-Canadian Cultural Association of Durham (ICCAD) held an intercultural friendship Iftar Dinner at Ajax Community Centre on July 25th, 2013. The guests of honour for the night was Hon. Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration; and Steve Parish, Mayor of Town of Ajax. Around 150 guests from all walks of life and various faith backgrounds from Durham region attended dinner.  Among the guests were, Roger Anderson,    Chair of Region of Durham; John Henry, Mayor of the City of Oshawa; Hon. Tracy MacCharles, Minister of Consumer Services (Ontario); Chuck Mercier, Mayor of Township of Scugog, Steve Parish, Mayor of Town of Ajax; Pat Perkins, Mayor of Town of Whitby; Gary Polonsky, Chair, Canada’s Museums of Science and Technology.

Zenji Acharya, executive director of North American Museum of Asian Heritage & Art gave a motivational speech about Canada and multiculturalism.

Intercultural Dialogue Institute – GTA (Toronto)

Intercultural Dialogue Institute* (IDI)  is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote respect and mutual understanding among all cultures and faiths through partnership with other communities, cultural, religious and inter-religious organizations by organizing educational and cultural activities such as seminars, conferences, discussion panels, luncheons, interfaith family dinners and cultural exchange trips.

Intercultural Dialogue Institute aims to promote enduring interfaith and intercultural cooperation, tolerance and dialogue by sharing the differences and similarities in cultures in an effort to achieve global peace in the foreseeable future. The Institute aims to eliminate or reduce false stereotypes, prejudices and unjustified fears through direct human communication. By this mission IDI aims to contribute to improvement of diversity, pluralism and multiculturalism throughout Canada.
