Members of the local Turkish, Syrian and Mennonite communities began meeting in early October to think about how we could make a difference for Syrian refugees.
In addition, a fundraising dinner was held at Trinity United Church in Kitchener. A wonderful meal of Döner and rice was donated by Kerem and Seda Ertabak, owners of Rana Döner Kebabs Restaurant in Kitchener. Salads and desserts were prepared by women from the Syrian and Mennonite communities. The evening also included live music and a performance by a young Syrian dance troupe as well as information about the current situation in Syria. Total proceeds raised for Syrian relief so far are $4,635. Some of these funds were sent to Kimse Yok Mu and used to purchase relief kits in Turkey.
