Ramadan Iftar Dinner with Community Leaders
Intercultural Dialogue Institute (IDI)-Ottawa and Ottawa Police Service set yet another successful example of partnership and co-hosted a Ramadan Iftar dinner program for the representatives of the diverse faith, ethnic and cultural communities of Ottawa. The program kicked off with welcoming remarks given by Vusal Babashov, Executive Director of IDIOttawa and Acting Inspector Mike Laviolette, Ottawa Police Service.The event featured a panel discussion on Sustainable Community Cohesion with Carole Gagnon, VP, United Way Ottawa and Prof. Donald
Beecher, Carleton University and attracted over 200 people with wide-ranging faith and professional
backgrounds including Councillors Marianne Wilkinson and Allan Hubley The program proceeded with spectacular piano performance by Miss.Jasmin Bayindir, call to prayer recited by Mr. Harun Arafat to mark the end of the fast for the day and delicious Iftar dinner, along with tea and dessert. Attendees left the evening with highly positive comments about this gathering and stressed the importance of the work IDI-Ottawa has been doing.
